What Ps2 Games Are Worth Money?

The PlayStation 2 was released in 2000 and was a massively popular gaming console up until its ultimate discontinuation in 2013. This console saw a number of excellent and incredibly popular games across multiple genres and is still a popular system for gamers and game collectors.

Although there were aton of games released for the PlayStation 2, there are some that have gone on to become pretty rare and collectible. As anyone who likes to collect older video games will know, once a game starts to get rare, the price can jump drastically. Even though most older games can be purchased for pretty cheap, rare games are incredibly expensive and often difficult to find, especially for someone looking for a complete copy with the original box and art. The PlayStation 2 is no exception and there are some games for the console that are very sought after and worth quite a bit of money.

Updated on May 25th, 2021 by Tanner Fox: Gamers who grew up with the sixth generation of game consoles are more eager than ever to collect and re-experience some of their favorite childhood games. While it's great to see that many are opting for physical copies of older games rather than resorting to emulation, this means that games from this particular era are getting to be exorbitantly expensive. From underrated survival horror titles to highly-acclaimed JRPGs, the PlayStation 2 was home to some landmark video game releases. That said, more than twenty years after its release, these titles continue to dramatically increase in price.

13 Silent Hill: Shattered Memories ($101)

An oft-coveted semi-reboot of the classic survival horror series Silent Hill, 2009's Shattered Memories was one of that last well-received entries in the franchise before Konami more-or-less pulled the plug on it following 2012's Book of Memories.

Though it's currently listed as going for as little as $100, prices for loose copies of this game can sometimes spike to more than $200. It's certainly a pricey PS2 purchase, but it's a must-buy for any serious fan of the Silent Hill games.

12 ObsCure ($125)

An ironically-titled and oft-forgotten second-rate survival horror experience, ObsCure takes some serious cues from the Silent Hill franchise. A survival horror game primarily set in a singular location featuring some seriously demented monsters and placing a heavy emphasis on puzzle-solving, ObsCure a neat oddity for fans of the genre.

However, it'll come at a price, as even loose copies of this game go for more than $100. Yet, though it was quickly overshadowed by the respective fourth entries in the Silent Hill and Resident Evil franchises, it's still worth remembering all these years later.

11 Futurama ($126)

Something of a hidden gem and a surprisingly quality tie-in title, Futurama on the PS2 is beloved by fans of Matt Groening's second most famous series, Futurama. A witty and biting cynical jab at modern culture, it's still an enjoyable experience to play through despite its aging references.

However, getting a hold of a copy can be a bit tough, as even loose versions of the game often cost around $125. It may be tempting to boot up an emulator, but we would argue that, in some cases, it's tough to beat the original physical versions of these games.

10 Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 ($130)

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is a fighting game based on the popular anime seriesDragon Ball Z. This game was released in 2007 on both the PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo Wii.

This game features the largest roster of characters in any of the games in theDragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi franchise and brand new battle stages that weren't in previous games, making it a fresh addition to the series. Just the loose disc of this game costs $130, while a brand new copy can go for over $260.

9 Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 ($140)

Debuting in 2000, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was originally released in arcades in Japan before being released on a variety of home consoles in the years after that. It was released on the PlayStation 2 in 2002.

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a crossover fighting game that features a variety of characters from the Marvel comics, as well as characters from a wide variety of different Capcom games, and pits them against each other for an intense battle. This game can cost over $300 for a new copy, but just the disc itself is still pretty pricy at $140.

8 Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Sumoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha Vs. King Abbadon ($145)

Retro game collectors will know that Atlus is responsible for publishing some of the most overlooked and retroactively coveted games of all time. Most famous for their Persona series, they often catered particularly toward the niche but well-regarded JRP genre, and most of their game releases are very limited in the West.

Such was the case with Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2. Releasing in 2008, two years after the North American release of the PS3, it was a tough title to get a hold of. Only available as an expensive box set originally, these days, picking up a loose copy will likely cost a collector upward of $140.

7 Def Jam: Fight For NY ($164)

Def Jam: Fight for NY is a hip hop-based game that was released on a variety of home consoles, including the PlayStation 2, in 2004. This game features a variety of real-life rappers as characters in the game, including Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, and Flavor Flav. The game has a story mode that follows the player's character through the underground fighting world of the city as they take on opponents and make their way up the ranks.

This game has become pretty rare for collectors and is a popular game for people interested in hip-hop music. A loose disc copy of this game can go for around $165.

6 Time Crisis 3 (GunCon 2 Bundle) ($180)

Originally gaining traction in the arcades in the late 1990s, Bandai Namco's Time Crisis games would eventually make their way over to home consoles. A light-gun-compatible on-rails shooter, it was a one-of-a-kind experience for Western games.

Though a standard copy with a single GunCon peripheral can often be obtained for less than $20, those looking to get their hands on the rare GunCon 2 release will need to shell out some serious dough. Forking out all that money for an extra light gun—which likely won't work with most modern-day setups—may seem extreme, but they'll certainly make for a nice conversation piece.

5 Blood Will Tell ($201)

Blood Will Tell was developed by Sega and released on the PlayStation 2 in 2004. This game follows the main character, Hyakkimaru, who had pieces of his body stolen by 48 different people and received prosthetic replacements for most of it.

The player controls Hyakkimaru who sets out with his companion, a thief named Dororo, in order to track down and defeat all 48 of the fiends that had stolen from him. The disc alone for a copy of this rare and expensive game will set a collector back about $200, while a new copy can go for triple that.

4 .hack//Quarantine ($227)

.hack//Quarantine is the fourth and final game in the.hack series. This game was released in 2003 on the PlayStation 2 and is part of a massive Japanese franchise that encompasses multiple games, manga series, and anime. This entry follows the storyline from the previous games, set in an alternate future in which a computer virus caused mass havoc on every computer in the world and the Internet was shut down until an MMORPG called The World is released and changes everything.

Even a loose disc of .hack//Quarantine isn't particularly easy to find, but a lucky player that gets their hand on one should be prepared to pay around $227 for it, with a new copy being nearly double that price.

3 Haunting Ground ($268)

A survival horror game, Haunting Ground was released on the PlayStation 2 in 2005. This game is often referred to as the spiritual successor to theClocktower franchise by fans of survival horror games because of its similarities.Haunting Ground follows the main character, Fiona, who wakes up in a strange castle after a car accident and is forced to try to find her way out of the castle alive.

Even though so many survival horror games were released on the PlayStation 2, this one is still one of the rarest and most expensive. A loose disc alone will set a serious survival horror fan back $268, while a complete copy can go for about $700.

2 Rule Of Rose ($323)

Typically, one of the most expensive games on the system isRule of Rose. Released in 2006 and set in 1930,Rule of Rose takes place in England and follows a woman, Jennifer, who finds herself caught in a horrifying alternate dimension in which young girls who call themselves the Red Crayon Aristocrats run everything.

A new copy of the game can go for well over $1,000 while simply picking up the disc will cost around $320.

1 Kuon ($410)

Released in 2004,Kuon is a survival horror game that is based on a traditional Japanese style of storytelling known as Kaidan. This game is set in ancient Japan and takes place in a Kyoto mansion during the Heian Period.

Kuon follows three characters across three different timelines, known in the game as the Ying Phase, Yang Phase, and Kuon Phase, and features some pretty terrifying enemies for the player to try to survive against. A complete copy of this game can cost over $1000, but just picking up a loose disc will still set a player back more than $400.
